Building Singapore Festival

Pipes and Puzzles

🌑 Setting & Theme

  • M&E Engineering Focus: The application is themed around the critical role of a Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) Engineer, who design and manage the "internal organs" of a building.

  • Blueprint Aesthetic: The visual interface uses a professional building layout/blueprint style, immersing players in a technical planning environment.

  • Dual Infrastructure Systems: The theme revolves around two essential utilities:

    • Power: Representing electrical systems, conduits, and power distribution.

    • Water: Representing mechanical plumbing, HVAC, and fire protection systems.

  • Professional Engagement: Designed for the "Building Singapore Festival," the theme aims to highlight the importance of engineering precision in urban development.

🎮 Gameplay & Mechanics

  • Infrastructure Connectivity Puzzle: The core objective is to successfully install all components for both the Power and Water systems within a building layout.

  • Dual-Layout Switching: Players must toggle between two distinct game states (Power and Water) to access different parts of the building’s infrastructure.

  • Precision Drag-and-Drop:

    • Players drag specific engineering components (valves, meters, connectors) from an "origin" pool to their designated "target" locations.

    • Dynamic Proximity Scaling: Components automatically scale and rotate as they get closer to their targets, providing a "perfect fit" feedback mechanic.

  • Project Deadline (Timer):

    • Players have a 60-second window to complete the entire installation (6 Power items + 6 Water items).

    • Visual Urgency: The timer features a dynamic blinking effect that accelerates as the deadline approaches to simulate a high-pressure project environment.

  • Scoring & Validation: Success is determined by completing all 12 connections. Completing one system (e.g., Power) triggers an automatic switch to the next (Water) after a short delay.

💬 Player Interaction

  • Tap-and-Hold Dragging: The interaction model is optimized for high-traffic event kiosks, using an intuitive "Tap-Hold-Drag" mechanic to manipulate building components.

  • Success/Fail Feedback Loops:

    • Success: Items snap into place with a "connected" sprite change, visual effects (VFX), and a positive audio cue.

    • Failure: If dropped incorrectly, components return to their original position with a "fail" sound, requiring the player to retry.

  • Post-Game Feedback Flow: Upon completion (Win or Lose), players are prompted with a feedback screen (Yes/No interactions) to capture user engagement data for the BCA.

  • Event Analytics: The app tracks session IDs and gameplay outcomes (Game Win/Lose, Feedback choices), providing valuable metrics for the Building and Construction Authority.

  • Idle Management: An integrated idle timer ensures the application automatically resets to the Title Screen if no interaction is detected, keeping the station ready for the next festival attendee.
